South Dearborn Middle School, and the South Dearborn Community School Corporation, is definitely part of the "digital, tech-based education" world!  This will be the THIRD year that SDMS students have had devices in the classroom.  This year, 2016-2017, all corporation students in grades 4 - 12 will be utilizing chrome books for learning.  Gone are the days of textbooks and reams and reams of paper being used!  Our teachers, and the corporation faculty members, are using Google apps for education, YouTube, and other educational enriching sites to further enhance the education of the students.  Digital learning must be a planned, supported educational experience, and we are happy to say that SDMS is a TRUE LEADER in that realm!

SDMS has installed a new "buzz in" system for visitors!  Individuals wishing to enter the building after 8:00 AM will be required to identify themselves in front of the camera, and may be asked to show positive identification if it is requested.  There are signs and arrows posted on the school's main office doors.  School safety is PREMIER at South Dearborn!!

The building has been equipped with video cameras throughout!

It is OFFICIAL!    South Dearborn Middle School has earned the Indiana Department of Education accountability grade, for school years of 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, of:

Congratulations to the faculty, staff, and students of South Dearborn Middle School for their hard work in this well-earned achievement! And, thanks to the parents and the SDMS community for their support in reaching this goal!!!!

NEW ATTENDANCE POLICY (BOARD APPROVED):  The following policy was made effective on October 1, 2014.  "To all parents/guarians of students in the South Dearborn Community School Corporation....South Dearborn Community School Corporation believes that regular school attendance is crucial to academic success, and that time lost from the classroom instruction impacts the learning experience of each and every student.  Students with poor school attendance tend to lose interest in school, and may choose to drop out of school later in their education career.  Poor school attendance has a tremendous impact on the student socially and academically; therefore, students are expected to be in attendance at South Dearborn Community School Corporation for each day school is in session.  Although the primary responsibility for regular attendance resides with the parents/guardians and the individual student, the school needs to support this effort as well.  We have excellent parent support in this regard and appreciate the good job each of you do in ensuring your student arrives to school on time and ready to learn.  We have a few cases, however, where there has been excessive tardiness to school which negatively impacts the learning of the student.  This letter is to notify you that on September 15, 2014, our school board adopted change(s) to the current attendance policy.  In the past, there was not a consequence for excessive unexcused tardies.  Unexcused tardies are defined as a student missing part of the school day without an excuse.  The new policy states that students/parents receiving 10 or more unexcused tardies per semester may result in a referral to the local Probation Department and/or the Depeartment of Child Services for Educational Neglect and/or Truancy.  Continued poor school attendance will result in school officials pursuing the Indiana Compulsory Attendance Law, Indiana Code 20-33-2.  We realize this policy does not pertain to the vast majority of parents and we will certainly work with any family that has extenuating circumstances.  The entire attendance policy for grades K-12 is available on the school website at www.sdcsc.k12.in.us.  Please feel free to contact your respective school's principal or our Connect Counselor with any questions or concerns you might have.  We look forward to working together to make each year successful for students."
